Juan Van Emmerloot is not only a respected musician but also a creative entrepreneur with a diverse career in the music industry. Starting as a touring drummer in the Netherlands at just 19, Juan has since expanded his talents into teaching and mentoring. He founded The Groove Impact Academy in Arnhem, where he coaches advanced drummers and offers enterprise percussion workshops for organizations and teams.
In addition to his in-person teaching, Juan has launched an online drumming business, hosting comprehensive courses on Forento. His courses allow him to share his expertise with a global audience, fostering the next generation of drummers.
Juan began teaching as a way to deepen his understanding of drumming. Early in his career, he realized that creating educational material for others was the best way to refine his skills and further develop as a musician. Teaching quickly became more than a side project; it was a way for him to share his passion. Over time, teaching evolved from a personal learning tool into an actual career.
"The fun part about teaching in my situation is sharing the possibility of becoming better at an instrument" he explains.
Throughout his career, Juan has taught students in places such as the Conservatorium in Rotterdam and his private drumming school, which he started in 1992. Today, his main venture is the Groove Impact Academy, established about a decade ago. "It's not for beginners but for people who already play at a high level," Juan emphasizes. His students are people who are already committed to playing the drums and are actively playing and teaching themselves.
Juan’s courses are tailored for advanced drummers who have been playing for at least five years. The focus is on creativity and personal expression rather than rigid academic structures. "I believe everyone can be creative. I just need to remove the barriers in people’s minds" Juan says. His teaching style encourages students to explore their unique approaches to drumming.
His platform, Drumming Secrets Revealed, offers a range of courses, from fundamental drumming techniques to advanced skills. "I focus on drummers who can already play. The course depends on students taking responsibility for studying and playing actively" Juan explains.
Juan's initial experience with course platforms was less than ideal. He was referred to a course platform by an eager friend who wanted to reap referral benefits. Over time, Juan realized that he was paying top dollar for a very complex platform with no real customer support, and decided to move on.
Juan started creating his platform during the early days of Forento, at the beginning of 2023. He found out about the platform through LinkedIn. "Someone from the Forento team messaged me on LinkedIn, asking about my online courses and mentioning Forento" he says. "The fact that I could talk directly to a real person, not a bot, was important to me" he also notes.
"Forento makes life easy for me when creating something" Juan says. After spending many hours on Forento, uploading videos, editing courses, and setting up memberships, Juan has become a good friend of the Forento product and team. This is because Forento has allowed him to do what he does best: create high-quality training for the next generation of drummers.
Juan’s plans include more touring and expanding his role as a music producer. "In 2025, I will be more active as a music producer. There are albums that I’m working on now, two of which will be released next year" he reveals.

If you're interested in creating an online course, an e-book, or selling coaching services online, Forento is your new best friend. We've made it our mission to bring you the best tools for monetizing your content.
To anyone looking to create a course, Juan says, "*Publish your course as soon as possible. I recommend publishing your course with three chapters and then continuing to work on it as you receive feedback from students.*" We at Forento think this is a great tip for future course creators, and it aligns very well with how we're developing Forento as a product.
If you spend too long working on your course, chances are the content is based on assumptions rather than what students want or need. If you publish your course early and gather feedback to develop the remaining chapters, you'll end up with a course that includes content that students actually want. If you're ready to start building your online course, we're happy to have you.
